OUR STORY

Seven VDCs, One Shared Vision

When CRED was established in January 2008, the seven Village Development Committees of Mandan and Deupur stood at very different starting points. Some schools were progressing steadily; others were struggling to deliver even basic academic outcomes. There was no shared standard connecting them — a child’s education depended heavily on which VDC they happened to be born into.

CRED’s founders set out to close that gap. Their vision was to work jointly for the overall development of education across all 7 VDCs — not favoring the stronger schools over the weaker ones — with CRED acting as a facilitator that could set a minimum standard every school would work toward, and ensure even the most remote schools had basic ICT facilities to build on.

That founding vision grew into a broader goal: to transform rural communities into “Open Schools” — places where accessible, quality education bridges the digital divide, empowers women, and builds holistic capacity through local ICT, health, and cultural initiatives working together, not as separate programs.

A Rare Continuity

“Open School” isn’t a phrase coined for this website — it was CRED’s founding goal in 2064 BS, independently documented again by outside observers in 2011, and still the organizing idea behind CRED’s work today. The same guiding principle, unbroken, for two decades.
